Today, Oct 28, 2017. The day I took IELTS mock test for the first time. And my performance was disaster, but hey OOPS is better than WHAT IF right?
I decided to take the test back in September and yet hasn't started to prepare until today. However, I saw a post on facebook couple days ago and got know that there will be a mock test for those who are planning to take the test and I applied. And guess what? It was disaster. No the test was okay, it felt kinda legit but my ability to perform tasks was just a piece of ****.
After the test, I came home and had some research about the test in general as well as a scholarship criteria etc,. I think it made me feel more depressed lol. Anyway, I decided to cheer myself up and what is the best way to do that? For me, the best way to release my stress is nice walking with good coffee. So I did.
Lemme write something regarding the test. First part of the test was listening and I gotta say that it was fairly easy despite the British accent of a speaker. The most important thing on this part was to read all the question before you hear the dialogue and you will hear the audio only once, so better be careful.
Second part was reading. This is where all the struggle began. There were three passages each has around 15 questions. I wasn't aware that, so I spent around 15 minutes on the first passage and about 30 minutes on the second one. YES! I didn't know there is passage 3!! So I had no time by the time I found it out. Of course I guessed every question on this passage.
Third part, perhaps the hardest part of the test, Writing. Ohh shooot. Frankly, I spent 45 minutes on the task 1 where supposed to spend 20 freaking minutes!. The task 1 will ask you to describe different kind of graphs, tables and etc,. And I got only 15 minutes to write perfectly organized complex essay. I just hand the paper without task 2.
Last but not least, had a speaking test with big bald guy with Canad-ish accent. It was okay tho.
So here is why I failed (result hasn't released yet, but I'm pretty sure) on this test . First, time management. Second, time management. Third, time management.
An hour might seem hella long time to write two essays with approximately 400 words in total. But in reality, it's nope. just NOPE.
So my fellows, you better keep tracking your time when you're preparing. Also no examiner would give a s**t about how interesting your idea is. So just be relaxed and try to show your English skills rather than meditating to find some sort of super idea.
