Do you know that engagement with social media and our cellphones releases a chemical called dopamine? That’s why when you get a text, feels good. Right? So you know we’ve all had it, when you’re feeling a little bit down or feeling a bit lonely and you send out ten texts to then friends, you know, hi hi hi hi hi. Cuz it feels soooo good when we get response. That’s why we count likes, that’s mostly why we copy some kind of serious ass words from nowhere and post it on our feed. Dopamine is exact same chemical that makes us feel good when we smoke, when we drink, and when we gamble. In other words, it’s highly addictive. We have age restrictions on smoking, gambling, and alcohol but we don’t have any on social media and cellphones which is the equivalent of opening up the liquor cabinet and saying to teenagers “hey by the way, this adolescence thing, if it gets you down, wink wink*”.
In Facebook and Instagram world, we are really good at showing people that life is amaaziing even tho we’re depressed. Everybody acts though but in fact, there are very little toughness in most of us.
The science is clear that people who spend more time on Facebook suffers higher rates of depression than people spend less time on Facebook. When I was in my university and working on case study about cons and pros of social media, I remember almost all of us, students, stated that social media helps us to maintain meaningful relationship, it helps us to be close with our best friends. All BULLSHIT. You know what addiction most likely to lead you into? Divorcement, weak relationship, betrayal, fight, financial instability and you name it cuz you already know it.
I disgusted by the fact that people became nothing but keyboard activist on online community who posts and tweets how the world should be, but very few of them actually taking action steps toward an issue.
However, it’s not that bad, not that bad only if we set limitation on it. Look, smoking is not that bad but too much smoking is bad, drinking and gambling are the same. They’re not that bad when you hold the balance of these things in your life. This is why I decided to limit my social network usage until the next year. So I won’t be around on social media like I’ve been past 6 years.
My blog posts will be shared on my personal account, automatically. So please don’t get confused about whether or not I changed my mind xaxa. I cannot reply your PM, DM or whatever. In fact, I couldn't even read it okay.
